MPLN LIS Blue v.7 Ocean

Our next-generation laboratory information system (LIS) has been developed from the ground up to be fast, easy to use, accessible, and secure. MPLN has implemented the latest web technology to develop LIS Blue as a globally accessible browser-based web application.
LIS Blue delivers the same primary functionality as MPLN’s Indigo LIS. You can order tests, view reports, and check pending lists. The new interface is familiar and intuitive for those currently using MPLN’s Indigo LIS.

How do I start using it?
First, you will need a username and password. If you already have an account with MPLN Indigo LIS, it will carry over to the new system. If you require setting up a new account, contact client services by phone at 865 380 9746
Next, you will need a modern desktop web browser. We recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome.
What else do I need to know?
MPLN’s Indigo LIS will no longer be available once LIS Blue is live, and we want to make the transition as easy as possible for our valued customers. Our client service and technical support departments are available to help and have been working hard to make sure everyone is ready to make the switch.
Responsive WordPress Website
Chic Solutions is Margie Burgin’s interior design consulting service located in Harrison, TN. She is also a partner of Burgin Homebuilder’s, which we also provide design and photography services to. This project was fun for me because I was able to tap into a design style that I have never used before. With Margie’s direction, we ended up with a effective branding system which included a custom logo and icon system, color palette, and a beautiful portfolio of custom photos of Margie’s interior design work.

iPad iOS 7 UI update
Indigo is a web-based laboratory information portal for Molecular Pathology Laboratory Network (MPLN). It allows users to order and access patient test results from a wide range of internet-connected devices. The system currently includes a stand-alone desktop application, a web-based application, and a native iOS app for iPad and iPhone.
As the user interface designer for this project, I was responsible for creating a unique brand experience for the product that would span across the family of applications. After the identity package was complete, we started the wireframing and information architecture process, which evolved into static prototypes. I’ve been working closely with a talented group of iOS developers and .NET web service programmers to create this software. It is now in the App Store and we’re planning future updates for iOS 7.
This project included a full identity package: logo, business cards, letterhead, envelopes and a one-page website. It was created for Anne Stone Sumblin, a fourth-generation Alabama lawyer from Bay Minette, Alabama. I worked directly with Ann to develop the content and design of the website. This is a static site built with HTML, CSS, and jQuery and uses a single-page anchor navigation layout. It also uses cufón font replacement and the elegant font Calluna to add typographic style.

This project gave me the opportunity to provide East Tennessee Rowing Organization (ETRO) with an updated identity, website and photography.
It started with a identity refresh because the name of the organization had changed and we wanted to use a clean and modern typeface that would reproduce well on merchandise. Using the updated logo, I also designed a T-shirt, hoodie, sweatpants and stickers for the club members.
Since I was a member of this club for four years while I lived in Knoxville, I had quite a large collection of photos that I had taken of the venue. This gave us a nice start for the website imagery and I have added a few more recent photos from regattas and the new facilities.
The website utilizes using ExpressionEngine CMS, HTML5, CSS3 and responsive layouts. I learned so much about these technologies and it has really changed and improved my whole web design process. This website works across a wide range of devices and browsers. ExpressionEngine allowed a great amount of flexibility with the code and didn’t limit my designs like other CMSs often do. The content editors love the control panel experience because it’s so intuitive in managing the content.

Wolftever Place is a new subdivision in Ooltewah, TN. It’s being marketed by Caroline Outlaw and Remax Renaissance of Chattanooga. I helped them develop an identity package which included the logo and builder signage.

Geneuity is a clinical research lab in Maryville, TN. I was responsible for the project management and complete redesign of the website. We chose to build the website in WordPress and we used the Bootstrap framework to address the need for a mobile-first approach. This project went from concept to completion within two months and stayed well below budget. I also provided an identity refresh for Geneuity which included an updated logo, business cards, and print design templates for flyers and stationary.

Watt Street CrossFit is a comprehensive fitness and nutrition center based in Alcoa, TN. I helped this startup business establish a complete branding solution including the logo and identity design, signage, business cards, t-shirts, and a responsive, WordPress-driven website.
Georgia Trauma Commission website
The Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission was established in 2007 to maintain, and administer a trauma center network, to coordinate the best use of existing trauma facilities and to direct patients to the best available facility for treatment of traumatic injury and participate in the accountability mechanism for the entire Georgia trauma system, primarily overseeing the flow of funds for system improvement.
This project scope included a responsive redesign of their existing website, which was developed with ExpressionEngine and Structure. The primary challenge was that the website needed to keep all of the content and database information in place, while completely redesigning the front-end using a responsive and mobile-first approach. We solved a number of problems with the redesign of the website including mobile support, content strategy and a subtle brand refresh.

This is a complete branding project for my friend and client Matt Burgin. Matt is a general contractor in Chattanooga, TN, and the owner of Burgin Homebuilders. I worked directly with Matt to develop an identity package which included a logo, business cards, stationary, photography and video services. We recently launched a new WordPress driven website and are in the process of planning our social media campaigns.
This project was a complete redesign of Molecular Pathology Laboratory Network’s website. I worked with a large team of laboratory professionals, including pathologists, software developers, and the executive team. We solved several problems that we were facing with the previous site:
- We used a responsive and mobile-first approach to develop an accessible website that works across a wide range of devices and screen sizes.
- We used ExpressionEngine CMS ( as opposed to Joomla in the previous site ) to allow more flexibility with the front-end templating engine, provide more security, and allow more control over the complex content strategy workflows for this site.
- We implemented version control with GitHub, Tower, and Capistrano, to allow a team of developers to collaborate on the code base and have a rock-solid backup plan and development documentation.
- We spent time researching our Google Analytics data in order to rethink our entire IA ( Information Architecture ) for the site, and we developed a much more intuitive navigation structure that delivers content to the user more effectively, especially in regards to the test menu.

5 Star Heart - Final Direction
In the military, there is no higher rank than that of five-star general or five-star admiral. Navy Football’s media department wanted something representative of the university’s military roots for use in their highlight reels. Also, the big-time, blue-chip athlete is often described as a “five-star athlete.” Navy Football believes that they win with heart, determination and teamwork and that these characteristics are more important than raw talent. So the objective of this identity project was to express the belief that five-star heart trumps five-star talent while defining who Navy Football is as a football program.
